November 10th, 2011

To Ms. Williams:  A cancellation is a stuttering modification tool where you get stuck or stutter on a word, and then right afterwards you say the word again easily (you cancel or erase the stuttering).

What we did today:
Today we played Connect Four and it was a tough competition against Victor and me, but luckily I won.  The reason why we played Connect Four is because we practiced doing stuttering modification tools. I worked on cancellations and first sound stretch, and Victor worked on pullouts.  It was fun, and I felt like I was good at first sound stretches but okay at cancellations.

November 3rd, 2011

Today we played a game Go Fish and we used our stuttering tools.  I used easy onsets and stretches at the phrase and sentence levels.  It felt hard because I am sick today.  I got better with more practice.  Jonathan practiced pullouts and he sounded great.  Ms. Leggette practiced cancellations.  She sounded awesome.  I feel happy and all of us did great.

What we did today- October 27th

Today we watched a video of a kid giving a presentation on stuttering and how kids could help us so we don't feel bad about our stuttering. And, we wrote in our powerpoint how we felt about our stuttering.

To Ms. Springer-
We will present our presentation after Christmas likely.

What we did today- October 13th

Today we recorded ourselves with a camera using the stuttering tools.  We all practiced using the tools. We will put it in our powerpoint.  We might want our teachers to see the video first.  We are still thinking about that.  Today we did great with our video.

October 6th, 2011 post

Today we  did our thought of the day, and the thought of the day is when we pull a piece of paper out of a bag and we read what it says and we answer the questions using our easy onsets.  An easy onset is a fluency shaping tool (we use it before we get stuck or when we feel that we're gonna get stuck), we use these tools to prevent us from getting stuck (e.g., we start our air before our voice and it sounds like this "hhhaaaat" on the word "hat").
Next we did my progress monitoring and we practiced pullouts at the structured conversation level (in Ms. Leggette's room in conversation).  We fake stuttered and real stuttered. We practiced listening if we can catch ourselves in real stuttering. It wasn't too hard, Victor used a buzzer to help me.
Second to last, we did our powerpoint.  Last, we did our blog.

What we did today- Sept 22nd

To Mrs. Williams-
What is a pullout:  A pullout is a stuttering modification tool.  You use a pullout when you stutter on a sound and then you "pull out" of the stuttering and finish the word.  For example, like this "h-h-h-hhhhill."

Our post for today-
Today we worked about stuttering tools.  We practiced easy onsets and cancellations at the sentence level.  We also worked on our powerpoint really hard.  We worked on what helps stuttering for us and what other people can do to help. We learned about the thought of the day- when people tease us about stuttering.  We got teased while playing videos games online because we stuttered.

What we did this week (Thursday September 15th)

Today we got a question: "If I could trade my stuttering for another problem, I would take..."  Me and my friend Victor choose poor vision as our other problem.  Because stuttering is an obnoxious thing that I have to deal with everyday.

Next we worked on pullouts (a stuttering modification technique) which was ok because I partially knew this from 4th grade and now Ms. Leggette is teaching me more about it and I'm using what she taught me in my speaking.

Then, we worked more on our powerpoint.  We worked hard on the part about what causes stuttering and what is stuttering.  Victor felt happy and excited, and I felt exhilirated.

Powerpoint

We started to make a powerpoint about stuttering and famous people who stutter.  We are hoping to share the powerpoint with our teachers, but we aren't sure if we're ready to share it with our classmates.

Welcome to the Rose Hill stuttering group blog!

Hello!

We've created a Rose Hill stuttering group blog to post things we're learning about stuttering and what speech therapy for stuttering is all about.
